Peniche beach is a great reason to spend surf holidays in Portugal
Well known among surfers, the region of Peniche «is worth a visit even without a board». This is how it appears in second place on the list of Lonely Planet best european beaches to visit in 2015. But there are more local places distinguished that portuguese can see without leaving the country: the Azores are the best destinations on the podium, in third place, and Oporto is tenth. Need more reasons to visit and spend some surf holidays in Portugal?
The world's largest publisher of travel guides asked its european publishers to choose ten destinations they want to visit this year and the Azores and Oporto were listed. Azores are «one of the best kept secrets» of Europe, «a spectacular chain of nine islands», where nature reigns, says Lonely Planet. Oporto is described as the sister «with soul and love to party» of the capital Lisbon.
There are points of interest for all kinds of visitors in Portugal
In the list of beaches to spend surf holidays, in Portugal, just after Jaz beach, in Montenegro, appears Peniche. And the guide points out that there is something for everyone: Medão Grande beach (Supertubos) for surfers, Baleal, for families, Forte, for history lovers and the Berlengas, for diving.
Leaving the country, the list of top destinations is headed this year by the small town of Akureyri, in northern Iceland, less than 100 kilometers from the Arctic Circle, on the banks of a fjord. As for the best place for a family holiday, the Lonely Planet suggests Kent, England.
