It was a long day for the more than 150 young athletes who competed in the 3rd stage of the European Pro Junior circuit. In Sopela in the Basque Country, Spain, where the championship ran, there were two rounds of the men"s race and female half of the 1st round in waves that rarely exceed 1 meter. Surf in Portugal was well represented.
For the Portuguese fleet, the balance of the day turned out to be positive, with 14 Portuguese athletes left in the competition on aggregate categories. That"s the way we surf in Portugal.

In females, Carol Henry won the respective heat of the 1st round, joining Teresa Bonvalot, leader of the ranking, and Mariana Assis, climbing to enter directly into round 2. Kamilla Kemp, the fourth in the Portuguese race, was one of the first surfers to enter the water, after the championship was interrupted in the previous heat.
In the men"s category, although some low, a strong contingent remained left in the competition. Pedro Coelho, Luis Perloiro, Jácome Correia, John Kopke, Guilherme Fonseca, Lourenço Alves, Antonio Duarte, Francisco Duarte, Francisco Almeida and Simao Penha continued for the title of champion of the Basque race. Among them, the focus was on Lourenço Alves, who made the highest score of the day in his heat of the 2nd round.

Miguel Blanco, the best-placed Portuguese surfer, currently in 3rd place of the overall ranking, was one of the stars and the Spanish Natxo Gonzalez and Frenchman Charly Quivront, 1st and 2nd in the ranking respectively, were in direct fight for the European title. It was quite an honour for these athlets to represent surf in Portugal.
